Purvaa Sampath, MT-BC, MMT is one of India’s few CBMT Board-Certified Music Therapists and a certified Neurologic Music Therapist (NMT). With dual degrees in Music Therapy and Performance from Berklee College of Music and a Master’s in Music Therapy from Colorado State University, she has trained and practised at renowned institutions including Perkins School for the Blind, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Boston Children’s Hospital, USA.
Over the past seven years, Purvaa has worked with diverse populations, including individuals on the Autism spectrum, those with cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, as well as geriatric clients with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, dementia, and those in hospice care. She teaches music therapy in postgraduate diploma programs at Women’s Christian College, Chennai, and St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and has been a facilitator and speaker at numerous workshops, courses, and events across India.
Her expertise also extends to corporate wellness, having collaborated with organizations such as IndiGo Airlines and Yashraj Biotechnology Limited to create music-based learning and development programs. Purvaa’s work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Rotary HR Pratibha Award for Women of Distinctive Vocation (2019) and the Professional Excellence Award by the Karnataka Women Achievers Awards (2022). She currently serves on the Global Reporting Executive Committee of the International Association of Music and Medicine (IAMM).
